Spy movies

I have watched a couple of these recently, and I enjoyed them both for different reasons.

The first I watched is just called "Spy," and it is a Melissa McCarthy movie which also stars Jude Law with an American accent (which isn't great, honestly, he sounds like someone trying to sound American). I rented the unrated version, which definitely was what you expected, including a naked penis picture (which was not expected, I realized I phrased that poorly).

It was pretty funny, though. It won't win any awards for being deep, but it definitely made me laugh which is what I was hoping for, so it was a win.

The second was "Kingsman: The Secret Service" and it was fantastic. I mean, Colin Firth is in it, which in my experience is 90% of the time an indication that I will enjoy it, but it is a genuinely enjoyable film. It was definitely violent, but it somehow managed to make me laugh as a church of crazies massacred each other to a catchy pop song from the 70s. HOW? I don't know. It was funny. And gross.

But it was really enjoyable.

I am not a reviewer, but I wanted to share these with like-minded movie watchers in case they were looking for something! Next on my list is the new Cinderella live-action movie, so a bit different that those previous two. It'll be interesting to see Robb Stark in this alternate universe where he doesn't (SPOILER ALERT) die horribly.

  1. I LOVED Kingsmen! I thought it was a brilliant movie. But I enjoyed Kick-ass from the same guy as well. And Colin Firth kicking ass? While immaculately dressed in a well-tailored suit? I think that made me love it even more.

Spy I really enjoyed. It was funny and over the top. You know, I didn't even realize that Jude Law was trying to sound American. That's so bad of me. I like Melissa McCarthy and I was very happy to see her in a movie where the majority of jokes were NOT about her weight.

    1. I heard Colin Firth did a lot of his own stunts in it, too! He is definitely one of my favourite actors, he does both serious and comedy so well.

Yeah, it is kind of sad when that is a big part of her roles. "Melissa McCarthy is overweight, HAHAHAHA." Like, she is legitimately a funny person, can we rely on that and not boring, tasteless fat jokes? But it was a ridiculous and funny movie, I really enjoyed it.
