My mom started watching it (after her boyfriend started watching it and then called her to make sure she wasn't cheating because everyone in the show was cheating on everyone else and he's never watched a soap opera before), and I got caught up in watching it.
Basically it's about a bunch of country music singers. In Nashville.
But the thing that's weirded me out most about the show are the things the drama is centred around.
Like, one star says "there is no god who'd ever listen to a crackpot like you" or something along those lines, definitely the "there is no god" part, and the media only plays the part where she says "there is no god."
And EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY RADIO STATION IN THE US OF A STOP PLAYING HER MUSIC.
Every single one. It's like this BIG CRAZY HUGE ENORMOUS CONTROVERSY and she is BLACKLISTED and HAVING HER ON YOUR LABEL WILL RUIN YOUR LABEL.
It just made me go "what. Is that really such a huge issue?"
Apparently it is in the world of Nashville the TV show. Whether it's true in reality, I couldn't say.
But my mom has taken to calling me "Scarlett" after a character in the show because she thinks we dress alike and have similar hair and profiles (face profiles, not Facebook ones).
So I guess I should take up country singing and keeping my atheism to myself. PRAISE THE LAWD.
I'm from a very atheist country, so it does seem rather ridiculous to me... but at the same time.. I know the US is very religious, especially in the south. So it could happen! Especially if it's in a TV show I guess :D
ReplyDeleteAnd now I may have to watch it just to check this "Scarlett" person out!
