Games to come

Elder Scrolls Online. It is a thing that is happening, and it is a thing I am excited about.

I really enjoy Skyrim, although most of my gameplay consists of "What does this do? Oh, now I am the Arch-mage of the college and I was a student three days ago. Cool."

But one of the only complaints I'd have is that it feels kind of empty, even though there are things and NPCs everywhere. I've often wished it was a multiplayer game so I could have friends along to help take down a mammoth or whatever.

So now I can! In a few months at least. I hope it's good.

Another game I'm looking forward to SO MUCH that I can't handle it is Dragon Age: Inquisition. I love Dragon Age: Origins. I loved the characters and how you could interact with them, I love the option of choosing my dialogue and it affecting how those characters liked you or didn't like you, I loved how they would interact with each other as you went through the world (Alistair and Morrigan's constant insults of each other were too funny), I enjoyed the story, I just really liked the game.

Dragon Age 2 was not as good, by far, but it wasn't a bad game. It was just disappointing after the excellence of DA:O. It had some things beat in the first, such as less stiff combat animations and an interesting skills tree. But the story was lacking and it definitely lacked companions as interesting as those in DA:O, not to mention much less option for just random interactions with your companions.

But Inquisition has been under development for way longer than DA2 was, so in theory this means it will have avoided the shortfalls of that game while finding again the feeling of saving the world that you had in the first game. Which it should, as the events from your play of DA:O and DA2 should have an effect on the world of Inquisition, just as your events from DA:O changed details in the DA2 world.

Did you choose to help the mages or the templars at the end of DA2? It should affect how the world looks to you at the beginning of Inquisition. Decisions you make in game can have far-reaching consequences, too. Did you choose to save the village or your keep? That'll affect that's going on the rest of the game!

So excited.

The Sims 4 is also out this year, and the one thing making me excited for that (because I already have Sims 3) is this line from the FAQ: "There will be additional fun and social gameplay elements for players who choose to go online (more to come on that later on) [...]"

I am HOPING it means that your Sim can visit with someone else's Sim world, because that would be so fun, seeing if your Sims get along or fight or whatever. So I'm waiting to see what develops there.

  1. I still need to play Skyrim... I did manage to get it for myself, but like most of my games at the moment, I never seem to make it beyond the purchasing step *lol* One day though...

I saw that Elder Scrolls Online is having a Beta weekend starting tomorrow. I got an invite, and I'd have loved to try it out, but I'm traveling and will be away. Not sure if my laptop could handle that game. I suspect it will be fairly graphic heavy.

I started DA, but lost all progress in a hard disk malfunction. I now have it both for PC and PS3 and I have to decide where I would rather play it. For as far as I made it through DA, it did seem like an awesome game, and I really do want to finish it!

I've never quite managed to play the Sims. I got Sims 3 on sale, but never properly played it. I think I'm still scarred from the first Sims when I tried to play it and inadvertently killed off the neighbor... (I made the father of the family cook... who apparently had no skill for it, so he set the kitchen on fire and the neighbor walked into it and died. His urn stayed in the kitchen and any time my Sims would walk past they'd just cry their eyes out, and ended up being the unhappiest Sims I've ever seen!)

That said, I'm very curious to see what they do with Sims 4. I've been playing some SimCity.. and I think it'd be really cool if your Sims could move into your SimCity!

    1. Blogger gave me an error and deleted my entire reply! Stupid blogger.

I tried to sign up for beta, but the website wasn't working when I did, so I never got to. Oh, well, I'll check it out when it's out for real instead, I guess.

Sims can be really stupid and die to weird things. Fire alarms are a necessity when making kitchens or having fire places!

Dragon Age on the PC has tactical view, which is being able to zoom out to above and see the whole battleground, where enemies are, etc. It makes it easier to set up combat while paused.
