Spoiler-free Dragon Age Inquisition stuff

Because I am kind of loving it, and won't have time to do anything once tax season starts (oh my god I am so scared, you have no idea!).

My original Inquisitor before I turned off the "persistent gore" effect. It is so ridiculous. Sometimes you have blood spots on your TEETH.

Why does Solas wear a shoe for a necklace?

Why does Cullen wear such a luxurious fur stole? It looks kind of ridiculous.

I am pretty certain flags through horses are not good for them. But it seemed okay.

My actual Inquisitor. This playthrough, at least. Totally making a dude to romance Dorian next go around.

The art is so cool!

A lot of guys seem to glitch into the ground.

Iron Bull's bosom looks ridiculous.

See? More glitching into the ground!

I was disappointed my formal attire wasn't a ballgown. SO DISAPPOINTED. But my hat is... nice.

They have the head of a Krogan in Halamshiral. (Krogans are from Mass Effect.)

Another glitch I seem to get often is the doll pose. Sometimes in cut scenes. Sometimes when playing.

More doll poses!

Crows are creepy.
Bioware does characters so well. Well, mostly. I think Solas is an insufferable prat and Sera is an annoying twit, but otherwise I enjoy the depths of each character, and their unique motivations. The way I play (choosing the nice or humourous options for dialogue and choices) seems to endear me to Varric (also seen in Dragon Age 2) and Dorian, mostly. I am pretty sure both Solas and Sera disapprove of me. The rest of them kind of waffle in between.

But I ain't romancing none of them, so I don't care! Totally romanced Cullen. He is kind of adorably bashful. So was Alistair, now that I think of it. I guess I have a fictional thing for bashful men.

They also have a transgender NPC. Not romanceable, or playable (though with the character creation screen, nothing is stopping you from making a man without an adam's apple or a woman with one), but treated as being normal and even having the option to ask him about it.

What I think I love most about the Dragon Age universe is how men and woman are not treated differently in their societies. The Inquisitor is a woman who wields a massive axe? No one bats an eye. Soldiers and mages and NPCs are men and women in equal measure. They wear the same armour. Breastplates aren't molded lovingly to my Inquisitor's hefty bosom (is is actually not even a very hefty bosom!). All her vital organs are protected.

I really, really hate the argument you see about fantasy where people insist that women being second class citizens in fantasy novels or fantasy games makes total sense, because the worlds are based on medieval times.

I am sorry, but if my character can shoot fireballs out of her hands at dragons, I really don't see why she can't be treated the same as men. I don't really care if there is no technology, I think the entire point of fantasy is, well, fantasy. You can do whatever the hell you want in a fantasy land. "Based on medieval times" is a cop-out.

But in Dragon Age? When I call my war council, there are five people in the room. Four of those people are women. THAT NEVER HAPPENS AND IT IS AMAZING.

BUT ANYWAY. If you like games, and stories, and games that have stories and awesome characters, play the Dragon Age games. And the Mass Effect games.

  1. Those doll poses are hilarious - though I suspect a bit frustrating while happening. And Cullen is probably wearing that huge fur throw because he's cold - you need to work harder at warming him!

I'm really enjoying Dragon Age. As you know, I started DA2 on the PS3, but I actually realised that I preferred the PC version. But because I want to import my character - I had to finish the PC version of DA1 first (which I did at the end of last week).

Then I discovered that my PC version of the game has the DLCs and Awakening, so during the weekend I was playing through Awakening, and this week I will do Golems, Leliana's Song and Witch Hunt. (I think that's it?)

I loved meeting Anders in Awakening, it makes me look forward to DA2 even more! He was a lot of fun! Ser Pounce-a-lot was the best.

Once I finish DA2 the boyfriend has promised me Inquisition :D

    1. Make the right choices!

Although really, it doesn't matter too much because you can just change them in Dragon Age Keep. Want your Hero of Ferelden to be queen? Make it so in the Keep, don't worry about all the effort it takes to marry Alistair in game! :P

Varric is really the best companion in Dragon Age 2. Isabella, Varric, and Aveline have the best party banter, I think, and are especially good if you roll a mage.

We will talk more of DA2 and the companions once you get further in! Witch Hunt DLC is definitely good to play before Inquisition.
